Classification: Cyberpunk

History:
There is no better proof that knowledge can be deadly than the world of Keldata. Thousands of years ago, its residents chose to abandon magic in favor of powerful new technologies. Global data networks were established. Titanic factories, capable of mass-producing the most delicate electronic devices, spewed smoke into the sky. Keldata quickly became prosperous, but it wasn't long until its natural resources began to dwindle. The problem was remedied, for a time, through extensive trade with a number of neighbouring worlds. Needless to say, when the Year of Chaos came, everything changed.

Keldata was plunged into a devastating war. The use of nuclear and biological weapons made a large portion of the world utterly uninhabitable. Fuel was available to only the lucky and the well-armed. The fighting finally concluded when most of the factions found themselves lacking the manpower to persist. Keldata found itself looking at a new world power: Vision 5, a massive corporation that had controlled a considerable slice of the resources to begin with.

Vision 5 built glorious new cities on top of smouldering ruins, and provided a comfortable enough life for its supporters. Those who opposed Vision 5, however, received little aid. Many were left to rebuild their lives among war-torn buildings, plagued by creatures who weren't quite killed by some biological agent, but would clearly be better off dead. A number of these less fortunate citizens turned to crime and drugs. Cybernetic implants became a far more common sight. Even a child could not walk these streets unarmed.

With the portals returning, there is much new hope for Keldata. Re-establishing old trades, however, may prove challenging -- Vision 5 is not likely to give up it's commercial dominance without a fight.

Main Conflict: Everyone for themselves, Vision 5 vs any commercial competition
This is a remarkably dangerous world. With many people so desperate to gain what they can by whatever means necessary, few places in Keldata are truly safe. If that weren't enough, Vision 5 actively attempts to destroy potential competition before it can become bothersome!
